FAQs

Question 1:   How can I be sure my trailer’s battery will power the LT35 tester?

Most trailers that have a 7-blade RV type connector and on-board battery will power this device. To be sure, check across pins 1 & 4 of your trailer’s connector using a test light (using a voltmeter may give false results). If power is present, your trailer’s battery will power the Light Tester. See diagram below for details.

Note: Some trailers have a diode in their circuitry that prevents outward current flow through pin 4 of the trailer’s the 7-way connector.

Question 2:  My trailer does not have an on-board battery, can I use the LT35 Light Tester for checking its lights?

Yes, simply connect the Light Tester’s cigarette lighter plug to any 12v external power source (battery or jump box) that is capable of providing 10 amps. For example, see picture below.

Question 3:  I have a trailer that has a 4-way Flat type connector. Can your testers be used for testing its lights?

Yes, both the LT35 & LT45 testers can be used to test the lighting systems on most any trailer by using the appropriate adapter. Adapters (see picture below) for different trailer types can be purchased through us or at most auto parts stores. When using a Trailer Connector Adapter with the LT35 tester, the LT35  will need to be powered through its auxiliary power cord.

Question 4:  If my trailer has a circuit that is shorted, will the Light Tester get damaged?

No, the Light Tester will not get damaged, as it is protected by a Circuit Breaker. The Circuit Breaker will also protect your trailers wiring from damage. If tripped, the Circuit Breaker is easily reset by pushing down the white button.
